JacknKay,
No doubt I was able to save a few $, but as simple as the task should have been, it turned out to be a real knuckle-buster. I had to do the work with the gen still mounted to the RV. Most of the time there was only room to use one hand.. I had a full day invested in the disassemble and reassembly, not including my time for troubleshooting.
I have worked professionally on mechanical devices most of my life, but engines is something I have always tried to avoid; it seems they just don't like me.
Example: I knew I would have to plug the fuel line when I disconnected it from the generator; so I took a 1/4" bolt with me when wormed my way under the coach.. The fuel line was well ceased to the filter, and I cut the line leaving the ceased rubber attached to the filter. Turns out the bolt was just a little too small to plug the line - probably a 3/16" or maybe a metric - and even with my thumb over the open end of line, I had a continuous trickle of gasoline was going down my arm and into my arm pit while I wiggled to reach a 1/4" ratchet among my tools lying just beyond the coach. Fortunately, I was able to use the ratchet extension to plug the line..
So, maybe letting a pro do the job could be the better answer.
