I did a search on here and Google, also looked at owners manuels for gen..looks like gen. is running too fast, but I don't see how to adjust that in anything I've read..

Its a Onan Marquuis 5500.. thanks, Ted O.

You could get a surge supressor in line. Or suspect a part of the convertor is gone south.
Most appliances will work and have usually a 10% "fudge factor" when it comes to voltages.

You may want to contact Onan about this. If the gen is anything like the gens used in the oil field, the govenor is supposed to maintain not only the voltage output but also the cycles per second (60). Sensitive appliances like electric clocks, TVs, computers, etc. will not only work improperly without 60 cycles per second, they may get damaged.

When you say the Onan is putting out 130 volts - is that with no load? Does it drop after some load is put on? I suspect that once a load such as air or micro or TV is added, the voltage will drop to normal voltage. If not, a visit to a professional is in order as the speed regulates the frequency (60 cycles0 as well as the voltage.

The voltage is set by the regulator board - as long as the rpm is high enough. As far as I know, and based on the shop manual I bought, there is no service adjustment on the regulator board for voltage.

As was said, the frequency is set by the rpm. As I recall the rpm should be 3600 rpm.

I would do as DSouthw524 suggested and see what happens under load.
Also, how accurate is your meter?
