Going to install surge protection
I confess, I know nothing about electricity. While having a beer with a neighbor, he mentioned he did electrician apprentice work. So I asked if he could install my recently purchased inline surge protector. He looked it over and said no prob. My question is, is there anything MOHO specific that he should be aware of? He's planning on just pulling the retractable cable from the box, and then "in" on the SP. then adding 2' of new wire from the "out" of SP back into the box. Any steps in between of before that I should make him aware of? He's used to building electrics, not MOHO's.

He'll be fine as long as he keeps L1 with L1, L2 with L2 (if 50amp service), Neutral with Neutral and Ground with Ground :-) Make sure he arranges/mounts it in such a fashion that you or someone else can still easily access the front cover to the surge protector for periodic maintenance. Being in a motorhome that bounces and vibrates it's a good idea to check wire lug tightness once yearly - if terminals loosen slightly it causes a poor connection which can arc, get hot and eventually burn a wire right inside the lug.

Thanks for the heads up. Never thought about road movement and loose connections.

I would not cut the cable there.
find the ATS (automatic transfer switch) inside the coach and disconnect 'cable in' there, reattach 'cable in' to 'SP in' and 'SP out' to 'cable in' on the ATS.
the ATS is usually behind the box that stores the cable inside the coach. mine is under the WC sink.
the ATS switches between generator and shore power. If you run your generator then as soon as power has stabilized, the ATS switches the coach to run off the generator rather than shore power.

I believe that is what Anewtoi said he was planning on doing

Any electrician should be able to install it without any problem. I put my Progressive Industries HW50C in line with the shorepower cable before it goes into the automatic transfer switch. The only real problem is dealing with those HUGE wires! Took me about an hour to install. Just be sure he uses the correct size cable between the protector and the MOHO ! I think is was a 4 awg but don't remember for sure.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Sorry about the terminology ( or lack there of). The "box" I referred to is next to the reel. It's what the inside end of the shore cord/reel connects to. So if I understand, this box is the ATS for my model?
Also, once shore power is disconnected, breakers open, genny off, will there be any backfed power from the inverter? Or do I need to do anything other than unplug from shore?

There are different type SP's here is info on different types I have the hardwired surge and all I did was cut the 50 amp cord to location you will mount it and wire through color for color to screw connections and you do not need to worry about transfer switch.
My SP also came with instructions on how to wire.
