We bought a 2010 New Grand Junction 350RE and we are shaking it down. We are having a problem with the hot water heater. Won't heat up on electric, but will heat up on gas. We have tested the element and it is okay. We have hit the reset on the water heater and nothing yet. Is there anyone that could help me?
Thanks

I can't be of any help, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly who can be of some help.
I was wondering if you're near the dealer where you bought the rig? If so, I'd take it back to them and have them figure it out and repair it. This is a warranty item, and should be done for free.

Hi RWETHEREYET, welcome to iRV2.
Our Suburban water heater has a switch inside the coach to turn on the electric heater. It also has a switch on the outside of the heater so you can turn off the electric heater to drain the hot water heater without going inside. Look to see if you have an outside switch. It may be off.
BTW, don't ever drain the water heater without turning off the electric heater. It will last less than a minute with no water in the tank. Don't ask how I know this.
Our water heater is located under the bathroom sink. There is a 120V plug under there where the heater gets power. You may have a plug, or the heater may be hardwired, and a wire may be disconnected.
Be sure to follow up and let us know what you find.

Hi RWETHEREYET,
Welcome to iRV2. In addition to what paz posted there should be a breaker dedicated to the HWH located in the 120 VAC breaker panel.
All that being said, how did you check the element? Do you have 120 VAC to the element? If so, check for AC AMP draw. If you have VAC but no AMP draw, the element is bad. The elements are industry standard. If you need a new one, any hardware store should sell them.

Thanks to all that have responded. We are not near the dealer so we can't take there. Checked the element with a meter and it says that it is good. Breaker is good. We are leaving for home on Sun and will get up with dealer and let them figure it out and all other little problems that we have.
Again, Thanks

Hi RWETHEREYET,
One should have about 10 ohms or resistance for the element to be good. More than 50 ohms and the element needs to be replaced. Is this what you measured and got? Once again do you have 120 VAC at the element? You already have a meter. This is a cheap and simple fix for a DIY project. If you purchase a new element, buy the wrench to take out the element.
At over $100/hour, a dealer will cost some big bucks.

Is the small rocker switch near the burner tube switched to on? Mine is behind the tube, easy to overlook if you don't know it is there. When new it came with a small pin in it to prevent it from moving to the on position.
