Question Grounding the Portable Generator ?

My question is do you need to ground a portable generator to the earth whenever you want to take it out and use it to power a 25 foot travel trailer because if this is the case then what a pain it becomes driving a 8 foot spike into the earth every time you go camping in the bush where there is no services. I have done reading on this and it seems to be a 50 50 split on if this needs to be done. Can someone please give me and others a definitive answer on this so it can be put to bed for good. Thank you in advance for all your comments.

I have a Whacker 5600 portable generator and also I have a Whacker 2600 portable generator and the spec below is from the manual.

5.8 Grounding the Generator
A ground connection (a) is located on the generator frame. For proper
Operating safety, this ground terminal must be connected to a good
Ground source. This ground connection must comply with National
Electrical Code standards, and state and local regulations.

Nobody I know grounds a portable generator when used with an RV.

However, using a construction type, open frame generator around others may be a problem. I know it would be if you were around me!

IMHO

Used gens for over 30 years as a lineman and never grounded any of them nor was there a requirement to do so. They were all truck/trailer mounted.
