Helllo Everyone

Hello Everyone, I am new to owning a fifth wheel. I have a 2004 Terry. I have only had it for 30 day and I am already having hot water heater issues, I bought this off an RV Lot. They did a walk through with me and at that point there were no major issues. The water was getting hot, the electric water heater light kept coming on and off about the third day. I called the lot I bought it from and they told me to shut off the switch for a few seconds, then turn it back on, it worked okay for the next 2 days, when light started coming on again. Well now I have no hot water, when I turn on the hot water I hear a buzzing sound coming from the heater but no hot water. I have another call into the RV Lot, I am hoping they can help me fix this issue. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Turn the power and gas off to the water heater. Then put a multimeter on the element checking for AC voltage. You want NO voltage present before you continue as you don't want to become a crispy critter!

Next disconnect the two terminals going to the heating element. Now set your multimeter to ohms and check on each ohm range until you determine what the resistance is. If you find no resistance or infinite resistance the heating element is bad.

Now check from each of the two terminals individually to the metal case of the water heater. You should have infinite ohms (in other words no connection). If you get a reading here you also have a bad element that has shorted to ground or is exposed to the water - dangerous! Be glad it stopped working!

Now reconnect everything. While it is turned on wait 5 minutes then use the multimeter to check for AC voltage while the water is cold at the element. You should have 120V AC now, if you do, you just double confirmed that heating element is most likely toast.

These instructions are off the top of my head. Others that know this particular brand may be able to provide additional details.
