HELP! A/C problems!

We fired up our AC for the first time yesterday.. it worked fine for hours. Left the rv for a bit and put it on auto at 68. Then when we came back we turned it down a little and a few minutes later, the fan slowed, came to a stop and sounded like it was struggling. Thought it could be icing up from the on/off on auto, but checked the blades and there's no ice. A few times now (a few minutes later and a several hours later) we turned it back on and every time it runs for about 5 minutes, works like a charm, and does the same thing, stops and sounds like it's struggling. Even on fan it will not spin after this happens, but wait a little bit and its fine for a few minutes. Condenser's working because it's still making cold air. Blades spin well at first every time but won't stay on for long. Any thoughts on what else could be going on here??

Check all of the capacitors as it sounds like you have a bad fan capacitor at least. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have the same problem with my 13,500 Dual Therm. I have been fighting this thing for a couple of seasons. I replaced both capacitors and thought I had it fixed. Fan worked flawless for a few days and then I would notice the compressor running with no fan. I would let it set for off for an hour and usually it would run fine after that. Now, just yesterday, after letting sit for a few hours, the fan would not come on; just hum. I just removed the cover and the fan was easy to spin by hand. So I came back down and turned it on and it is working fine. This is my front unit and I have the fan setting to high speed instead of auto, so it should never stop. But it did? I would recommend you shut it down and clean the main ground from the capacitor first even if it looks clean. After doing that, I had no probs for about 10 days. For diagnostic reasons, I am not going to clean mine again right away. Post your results.
