HELP? Question regarding a Honda EV6010 Generator

Hello Everyone.

I need some assistance... I have HONDA EV6010 RV generator that I just installed into my motorhome and I have the following problem.

Generator is installed into bay, runs off gasoline

Generator starts and runs, no problem

NO wires hooked up to coach, and I figured I would test my output voltages and this is what I get:

Red wire to White (20 amp side) = 80volts
Red with white stripe wire to white (30 amp circuit) = 80 volts...

am I missing something in the hookup? Do I need a load in order to get full voltage? It should be 120V

The wires I have for outputs on the generator are

Red with White Stripe

Anyone have any experience with these gen sets and can offer any advice?
I'm worried I just spent a ton of money on a dud gen set...

Rig up a power cord with some space heaters, motors, large strings of lights, etc and connect to genset output. Then measure voltage and frequency. It should come up to 120 vac & 60 hz. It probably just needs a load on the unit to produce full power and your digital meter is not high enough to trigger voltage regulator of genset.

Thanks So much for the tip Mike... I got pretty dejected last night and completely forgot about the possibility of it requiring a load...

I'll update with my results when I get home from work today...

Thanks again.
