Help! Sharp R-1870 Oven

Good afternoon from HOT, HOT Arizona! We have an older coach with the old Sharp R-1870. It still works, but, parts keep falling off, etc. We are thinking of replacing it, and wonder if anyone else has replaced theirs; it is in a 2001 Newmar Dutch Star DP. If so, with what, and how difficult is it? Thank you!

You can download installation instructions from the manufacturer from the web and even watch a Utube video describing it. Basically there is a bracket that's first secured to the back wall, the back of the oven is tipped up and positioned on lip that's part of the wall bracket. The front of the oven is then lifted up and secured with two very long screws. The screws are hidden under the vent grilles on the bottom of the oven and travel at a 45 degree angle where they enter the rear bracket. Caution, there may be other screws used by the coach builder through the surrounding cabinets that must be removed. Check carefully. Another warning, the oven weighs in at about 70 lbs and is difficult to maneuver over the countertop. As for a replacement I would lean towards a similar model Sharp since you might be able to use the old rear bracket. You could also take this opportunity to change to a rear outside vent if it isn't already.

I have the exact Sharp model in my coach. I have had to remove mine twice in the last two months and falconman has it correct, there is a good youtube video on how to remove it and it is heavy and awkward to handle. It will help to have pillows underneath it to lower it down or another set of hands. I looked into a replacement for a while but in looking a the cost vs. fixing I just replaced the fan motor and magnetron so hopefully it is like new(fingers crossed).

I can sympathize with the plastic parts falling off, they get brittle and break easily but several suppliers have the replacements, Sears appliance parts for one.

I had a problem with the catches breaking on the grille across the top and it kept falling off! I finally used cable ties to secure it to the metal behind it!

I have the 1874 model and removed it for repair when it would run 59 seconds exactly and stop. That turned out to be a bad switch.

You need two people to remove that microwave, it is very heavy and bulky.

Mine was attached by two long diagonal going from the front bottom to the top rear.

It ALSO had two bolts in the top center. Those were covered by the stapled in floor of the cabinet above it. Thank you Monaco.

That cabinet floor is now held in place by screws.
