I recently installed the Progressive Industries surge protector and had a terrible time getting all the fine copper wires into the terminals. The majority of the fine strands would fit but there were always several that wouldn't go in or wouldn't stay in the terminal. I dug around in my toolbox and found the biggest wirenut I could find (grey). It was just big enough to nicely shape each wire if I twisted it all the way tight and then removed it. It worked great to shape the ends of each wire and they slipped easily into the terminal. Make sure you get each terminal as tight as you can to minimize heat.

Thanks again for all the advice ! I found a Craftsman multi-cutter in my tool box (the kind with a razor blade and anvil jaws) and used that to cut my wire. Worked great and once the outer jacket was removed, it was relatively easy to work with individual wires.
Got my project started - just need time to finish up.

I am also going to cut mine. Got to make sure to cut it in the right place so the Progressive Industries EMS-PT50C lies in the right place and the display is easy to see after plugging in. Great information from everyone. EMS-PT50C EMS-PT50C

I installed a hardwired Progressive EMS-LCHW50C this weekend. The hardest part was working with the 6 gauge wire (kinda like wrestling a snake) and making room for all of the wires and the two sensors that slide over them in side of the box. Took me about three hours and only minor scratches to the hands.

In the process of installing mine now. How in the heck did you get everything stuffed in that box ??? I have wrestled with those wires and the sensors all afternoon and still can't get them in. Any chance you could post picture ? I agree that 6 gauge wire is a bear to work with !

My surge protector arrived today. I haven't decided if I am going to put it before or after the transfer switch. I have some leftover #6 from when I converted my last coach from 30 to 50 amps.
Wrestling #6 wire is always a lot of fun.

I made all of the #6 wiring connections BEFORE mounting the unit.
That made the job much easier.

I also made all the connections and the pig tail BEFORE I mounted the unit in the coach. The wires are difficult and sometimes it helps to just walk away for a moment or sleep on it! It does all fit though!

You'd also waste allot of blades not unplugging also.
