Help with Water Heater

This weekend, my Atwood 10 gal. water heater started leaking profusely from the pop off valve. I quickly changed the unit with the same psi and temp rating. The new unit was doing the same thing. So now I am wondering if I have another problem? It started blowing the fuse on my water pump.

Confused.

Pressure and temperature should be the only two causes, so I am wondering if the temp. sensor on the water tank is fouled. Anyone know what the water temp should run up to....

Or any other ideas??

Max psi according to the atwood site is 150psi (ANSI standard) bypass valve blocked or still on causing pressure build up?

Temperature should not exceed 130 degrees. Where you operating on LP gas or electric mode? You first want to be sure the heating element is good and not partially shorted to ground. This could continue to heat water; even around thermostat. If is is good, then the operating thermostat is not opening the circuit at the proper temperature. Then also the ECO (high limit) thermostat is defective as well as this should open at about 190 degrees. Let us know what you find.

Have you drained the WH and allowed the air cushion to be established?

Periodically this needs to be done to allow for expansion of the water when heated.

Excellent input, I did have the air gap after changing the pop off valve. I have been dealing with a noisy check valve, so it may be partially operating and building pressure. When this first occurred, I was on elect. And gas, then switched to gas only and it still leaked.

More testing and exploration required.

Turns out my pump ptessure switch was set too high, I adjusted it down and now it holds water again. Strange but true. The shurflo extreme 5.7 is powerful.
