My water heater does not do that (At least not often) Back when I was seasonal it would do it like 3 or 4 times at the start of the season if I started it on propane, Worked fine if I started it (Got it hot) on electric first.

My furnace however, was another story. Worked exactly as you describe

The OEM control board replacement would have set me back 250 + S&G

The Dinosaur board from American RV, 108 in my hand (And a few minutes later IN my furnace) That includes S&H.

OH, one more thing.. As a trained electronics technician I took a good critical look at the new (And old) board and notied two things.. The "Look and feel" of the Dino board is first rate, Considerably better than the OEM,, Second, a device on the Dino board appears to be there specifically to prevent what I think happened to the OEM.

Made in the USA (But then so was the oem, just the other coast) Looks to be better built, and less than half the price.

Long live Dinosaur boards!!!!

I am having the same problem, and it has been getting progressively worse for the last couple of months. I had been able to overcome it by cycling through the start up 2 or 3 times (6 - 9 fire-ups and flame-outs) then it would make hot water for a week without a hitch. Unfortunately, it did not fire back up after the last heating cycle (yesterday) and I have not been able to get the flame to stay on.

I'll clean the igniter electrode and see if that helps.
