Hot water tank

and sanitizing. For those of you that use bleach to sanitize your fresh water tank, do you bypass the hot water tank or do you allow the bleach and water mixture to go through the hot water tank.

I asked a tech at my local dealership and he said he had never heard of using bleach for that purpose. He did say to bypass the tank, but since he had never heard of the method I am not sure I would listen to his advice, I have read a number of posts here and on other forums about how to perform the sanitizing but I have bot really seen the answer to whether or not by passing the tank is recommended.

I want to sanitize the tank(s) before leaving on our trip out west at the end of the month so all answers are appreciated. TIA

I use Spring Fresh in the spring and it does a very good job at taking care of the water system. Just follow the instructions. Since I always have time, I let it sit in the system a day longer and take for a couple short rides to agitate the mix in the tank.

I sanitize with bleach through the entire system. I usually let it set overnight then drain the water tank and the hot tank which I then flush with one of those RV water tank rinsers. I then install fresh water and am ready to go. Been doing this for years and never had any problems. Also, I always carry an extra nylon plug for the water heater because sooner or later it will fail while installing or removing it.

I have never bypassed the water heater. So far, no problems.

I follow Brian's instructions. Been sterilizing doing that yearly since 1999.
