Hour meter broken

1998 class a chieftain generator hour meter not advancing. You here the familiar audible "click" but unit does not increment. Meter is mounted in the stove hood assembly. Not sure that is a good spot for it since it gets exposed to grease and steam from the stove! I've given the meter a few sharp raps with a screwdriver to no avail. A new one from Lichtsinn costs $58. Not worth it... Any suggestions?

Take the one that is broken apart..... may be something simple to fix.
You could buy a new hour meter and place it in the generator cabinet. That is where my meter is located.

Cc, It doesn't seem possible to take it apart as it appears to be a molded one piece design. But you know, since it doesn't work now anyway, I'll find a way inside the thing and glue it back together.. I saw the less expensive Hobbs unit but it would require some trimming. Mine does not screw into the face plate of the oven hood and does not have the tabs for screw holes on the sides.

Forget about the hours and change oil/filter once a year
