House and chassis batteries not charging on shore power

I have a 2006 36 ft journey. while doing a replacement of my house batteries (from two 12V to four 6V) I apparently grounded my inverter cable and when I touched the cable hookup to battery there was a spark. I cut the top metal support so there was more clearance and hooked up all the cables to the house batteries. However, now the batteries are not being charged. I do have AC in the coach when on shore power. I have checked the breakers and found no problems. Has anyone experienced this problem. Would appreciate thoughts on what my next step should be.

There will be a circuit breaker ON the inverter and possibly a LARGE inline fuse between the inverter and the batteries ( pictures below. )

EDIT: Was the RV plugged into shore power when you were working on the batteries ?

Skip, I rechecked my fuse close to batteries, checking voltage at the fuse since I had only ohmed it before. Sadly I learned that I hooked up all the cables except for the inverter cable :-(

again when I touched the inverter cable to the battery it produced a spark. When I placed my meter probe on the end of the inverter cable (without cable being hooked up) it read about 4.5v but realized that it was apparently due to a capacitor inside the inverter. By holding the meter probe on the cable I was able to discharge the capacitor...and then connected it to the battery and now all is well. Thanks for your prompt response. We are heading out on Friday so I was a bit worried (as was my wife)....

The spark is normal. Its the components charging up in the inverter, they all do it.

Its even mentioned in the book.
