I was wondering what the norm was, as I am on an slight incline, and people tell me the new refrigerators are not as critical as the older refrigerators.

Mine will go to freezing if I want it to in the refrigerator section.
I've never worried about being completely level, there will be times when that's not possible.

The newer refrigerators will operate with a little more (up to 3 degrees) out of level but in doing so I feel that you are still causing the unit to have to work harder and in the long run will shorten the life span. The best policy is to level or drive the coach when using the refrigerator. To answer the temperature question; the freezer should be about zero and the fresh food down to 34 degrees.

I am in the same mindset, of why over work the fridge.

how cold,, below 40 degrees in the fridge.
NOTE: RV fridges, when first turned on, may take a day or two to get there unless you load 'em up with cold food.

I've always heard that you only have to worry about a fridge being close to level is when it is parked and not running. Not sure where I read this or if it is correct. I'm sure some RV techs on here can answer that.

FLIGHTSIMMER,
Recommend you read the blog series about Understanding the RV Refrigerator. The first page is HERE.
Lots of good information if I do say so myself.

Food safety requirements are that cold storage needs to be at 41 degrees or lower. Food can remain at higher temperatures for short periods of time but I believe that this time period is about 2-3 hours (not room temp, just somewhat warmer).
Freezers are generally expected to keep food somewhere right around 0 degrees.

We have the Norcold 4 dr. and according to the cheap thermometer we have inside, it stays around 32-33 degrees in the fridge compartment on the '5' setting - being on gas or electric. I have no idea what the freezer compt. temp is, but the ice is always real hard!
BTW, I've found that if you keep an inch of water in the outside drain cup (and thus keeping the end of the drain line submersed)for the condensation tray under the cooling fins, that the frost build-up on the fins will not occur as fast or as heavily. I think it has something to do with hot/moist air traveling up the drain tube onto the cooling fins adding to the build-up of frost. I also try to keep a couple drops of bleach in that water to keep the white snotty looking stuff at bay...what is that grunge? Bob
