After the black tank is empty how much water should you put back in before using?

I normally put about 7-10 gals back in. I find this helps to avoid the dreaded teepee. The size shape of your tank may be a factor.

I fill the toilet, flush that and have never had a problem.

No additional water should be necessary. The next time you use the toilet you will add water. Be sure that you wait until your tank is about 1/2 or more full before dumping and you will not get any pyramids.

I always add water. I have no idea how many gallons, but more than just one bowl full of water. That way if I need to use the toilet while traveling I feel assured that there is enough water to dissolve toilet paper.

Two full bowls of water and a cup of disinfectant/deodorizer after the dump. Not really sure if the last step is necessary - just hope the heads smell better. Bob

After flushing the black tank I close the valve and let the tank sprayer run for one minute. I want enough water in the tank to fill the drain pipe between the tank and valve, and to leave just enough to cover the bottom of the tank itself. Yes, the shape of the tank will determine how much water to add. While this may not be necessary I do it as a precaution to eliminating problems

If adding a couple gallons of water to the tank prevents problems later on then I am all for it...

I flush and put about 5 gallons and flush back than put 5 more gallons never smell and never had any problems

What kind of problems is everyone trying to avoid by adding water? It's just a holding tank. The first time you "P" and flush there will be water in the tank.

I add the chemicals to the bowl and fill the bowl, then one more bowl full.

Bill, By adding water I find my system dissolves tp better and keeps the contents more fluid if you will. When I first got this rig I tried using the one bowl method and had to deal with several teepee issues. FYI just filling the holding tank and dumping will not make them go away. I do believe tank design/size is a big issue here. By adding water my system just plain works better. Your use, model, experience may differ, but adding a little water will not hurt anything. Finding out your system needs to have a little added water, well you'll remember it. Take care.

One example...you empty the tank and leave dry. The 1st person to use the toilet makes a deposit. You now have "material" in the tank with very little water (one toilet bowl). This stuff settles into the pipe between the tank and the drain valve. There's a very good chance the material and toilet paper will jam the drain when you next attempt to empty the tank.

I had this happen to me twice before I figured out what was happening...a little water in the bottom of the tank will prevent this from happening...
