How to Remove Bad odor in Freezer/Refrigerator

We have a Norcold 121 series 3 door refrigerator in our '06 Pace Arrow. Ordered it and had it installed new in Feb '15 when we purchased the RV from a local dealer.
Recently, the refrigerator propane turned off and didn't re-ignite. Our rig was in the shop for an oil change and other maintenance at the time, which ended up taking much longer than the 3 days time we'd anticipated it would be there. We were told the house batteries had died from the rig sitting at the shop, so the igniter to the refrigerator propane stopped working (temporarily).

As a result, all the food stored in the rt side freezer defrosted and rotted, creating a very terrible and obnoxious odor every time you open the freezer door. You can imagine what spoiled seafood, shrimp, and pork smell like in hot weather in a hot RV...

I thoroughly cleaned the freezer, and placed a new box of baking soda in the freezer, but after 3 days it still reeks in there when you open the door to the freezer compartment.

How do I get rid of this awful smell? I called Norcold today. They suggested we try a product called Odoban, or they heard some folks had some success with using a small amount of real vanilla drops on a paper plate, and placing the plate inside the freezer compartment.

Comments and suggestions welcome!!

If I purchase some Odoban, is the Eucalyptus odor the best one to use inside refrigerator freezer? Is it Ok to use in there?

Thanks
Jim and Susan

Scrub all interior surfaces with disinfectant wipes--racks, under the crisper if you have one, too. Then put and keep a box of baking soda in it for a while. The odor should go away when you scrub it out. But, the baking soda is to absorb anything else--it takes time. You also need to get between the grates in the back of the refrigerator.

Fresh coffee grounds will remove odors if you don't have baking soda handy

You might try warming a cup of vinegar & placing it in the freezer overnight.

After cleaning and sanitizing a fridge with bad odors my wife fills it with crumpled news paper and refresh with new paper until odor Has dissipated. Sounds funny but it works!

Odoban will get any odor out of anything. Pet odors, gasoline/diesel out of clothes, smoke from house fires? It has to be wiped or sprayed on. I don't know if that odor has gotten into the fan system. Make sure you get that brand. Not Odo-out.
