I have a 92 Bounder with an Atwood hot water heater. The unit ignites normally from the remote switch and heats water, but will not shut-off when the remote switch is placed in the off position. I have not let it run until the water reaches maximum temp. While unit was still running I put the remote switch in the off position and unplugged the red wire from the left hand terminal of the ECO switch as described in the instructions for the unit. Unit continued to run. I then shut off the propane. The unit shut down. When the propane was turned back on, with the remote switch still in the off position, propane began to flow at the unit. Propane has now be shut off until repairs can be made. I suspect the Ignition Control (IC) to be the problem. The IC is an Atwood P/N AVM91315. Any suggestion whould be appreciated.

HDavid,

If the propane continues to flow with no power to the unit, which is what you accomplished by pulling the ECO wire, then the gas valve has failed in the open position. Fortunately this is very rare. If you are not fully trained and familiar with gas appliances, you should not attempt to repair it yourself.

L8r,
Steve

HDavid, welcome to our website and forum. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I would also caution any repairs for those that are not fully trained in the safety issues concerning gas appliances. Having said that I agree that is sounds like a bad gas valve and should be repaired immediately. Good luck and let us know you are once again safe after the repairs are made.
