Ice Maker
My ice maker needs replacing in my 1998 built Dometic Royale RM3862, it's an M1 SA8868. So far, it's appearing there are a few versions of this same model. The ones I see have the power cable coming out of the unit about 8" then the connector. On my unit, the cable from the MH plugs right into the unit. Wondering if anyone has been thru this and where they got theirs before I beat the internet again this afternoon. Thanks.

Can't help with the repair , but something for you to consider. My ice maker broke down , probably due to poor park water quality, even with filters. Rather than replace , I pulled out the unit and bought a portable, not an option if you boondock, but DW likes the extra freezer space, and we have more ice, faster of know quality, at less than 1/2 the price.

Thanks Skip. I know the wife would like the extra room. I can get a replacement for about $70 (when I find the right one). How big is your unit, brand and approx cost?

Portable cost $149, Canadian, on sale regular 199, but lots similar in USA. only difference to the CW $299 unit is mine doesn't have carry handles . Ice in 12 mins, and a days supply in 2 hours. Pack extra in a ziplock and keep in freezer.
That's the disadvantage of the portable , no freezer section, you have to pull the cubes out to keep them, but easier to find room for a ziplock in the freezer.

We did the same as Skip. the original Ice Maker in the fridge just couldn't keep up with the demand and I spent more time tampering with it than it was worth. We got ours at Wally World Magic Chef MCIM22TW Portable Ice Maker - Walmart.com I chose the Magic Chef because when I did a search for parts, it was the one that showed up most often.
We keep it in the shower when driving.

If you are near St. Clair, MI I likely have a spare I do not want.
So long as the plug and socket match, any standard ice maker from your choice of Home Improvement store or appliance store should work.
If plug and socket do not match.. Well.... I have the skills, so do thousands of other Rvers.

Thanks, much appreciated. I am only 2 or so hours away, but already ordered a portable. I was prepared to order one with different connectors, as a re-wire would be childs play for me. I did find one thats a perfect match though, but DW overroad that idea Thanks again for the offer!
