Bought MH, Icemaker did not work, checked outside of unit and found that the line to the ice maker was not hooked up, put water to unit and it leaked something awful. I then cut water off and proceded to correct problem. I have found out that the plastic male outlet threads had been cross threaded as there were no threads on it. I wanted to take the water valve off and put a new one on, but i cannot get to the screw that holds it on. I cannot imagine why engineers put such things in places that they do. I dont know of a tool that will reach in where the screw is. It is a hex head metal screw, and another thing: Why do they put a metal male fitting on the inlet side and a plastic outlet fitting on the other side??? I have a 2000 Tradewinds model 7373 front door with a single door frig (Dometic). Any suggestions as i want to put a new water valve on this unit. Thanks, Rivrduk

Use a long 1/4" hex bit extension. Inlet is under constant pressure but the outlet is not. Test the outlet line for leaks once you get the inlet side (valve) repaired. Turn the refrigerator on with the ice sensing arm push and locked in the up position until you are ready to test. When ready lower the arm and watch for the ice maker to go through its harvest cycle where at the end it will energize the water valve. Watch for water to enter mold through nozzle, then check for leaks on the exterior.

Some good questions.. Some answers.. If you can't get to the screw you are trying to get to.. See if perhaps you can remove a bracket that holds the solenoid (Valve) assembly. That is how I do it. If all else fails grind or drill

Second, A new solenoid (Dometic) is now over 120 dollars from Dometic's authorized parts supplier.. That's up from 12 bucks six years ago.. The solenoid from most any refrigerator with ice maker will work.. Some of them work better no less (Though you may have to adjust the cube size control on the front of the ice maker under the lid) I replaced my Dometic with an Amana.. 27 dollars in my hand (Delevered) from an internet vender.. This is a "2 stage" valve.. I believe the first stage is a pressure regulator so the ice cubes remain teh same size no matter if I'm on tanked water, park water, high or low pressure... This makes it superior to the dometic valve which lets pressure affect the size of the ice crescent.. YES, I did have to re-drill a mounting hole.. but the bracket was included, IN fact several different mounting brackets are included.

There are basicaly 2x2 and possible x 2solenoid arraingements.

Single stage (Just valve) v/s dual stage (Regulator/valve)\
Right angle v/s straight through
1/4 inch compression inlet v/s 3/4 garden hose inlet

If you get the latter (3/4 inch inlet) an adapter will be in the box for the 1/4 in compression line so that one don't matter.
