Smile Install a combo washer-dryer in a slide?

Hi there!

We are brand new to RVing and to this forum. We just bought a 2008 Carriage Domani (5th Wheel), and we are making some major modifications to the kitchen area. One of those is that we are looking to install an under-counter all-in-one washer/dryer. It's a Splendide 2100XC, which is vented.

So my primary question is: can we install this in a slide? The slide is not very deep--maybe 14". What else should we consider? It would go right next to the sink, so we may just drain it into the sink drain, like a dishwasher. We don't currently have a vent, but my contractor thinks creating a new one will be no problem.

I know many people are not fans of the all-in-one units, but I've pretty much made up my mind to go for it. I'm aware of the limitations, but we don't have lots of wash, and we don't need to do it quickly. I value my space more than having two separate units.

Appreciate your feedback!

My 2003 Pace Arrow had the combo unit in a cabinet to the right of the sink, (in a slide)...but it was factory installed and the mfgr had designed the slide to take the weight. I would be concerned about two things.

Not having the weight equally distributed on the slide, and if you have enough room behind for the hoses and vent. The water hose in slides has to be done right, or they will kink.

The previous owner of our Winnebago 32K installed a washer/dryer in the bunkhouse slide (replacing the 2 bunks with the unit plus storage). We’ve had no issues with it there. Ours is not directly plumbed into anywhere and is it vented out the side. When we use it we have extra long fill and drain hoses that go to a washer fill/drain fixture that is installed inside the shower (across the hall). Yea, it’s a PITA to use sometimes but it’s the price we paid for the convenience of having the washer/dryer in a shorter coach.

Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! Keep her between the ditches!

I would look for another location for the W/D.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

The Splendide is a very good product within its limitations. As noted in post #2, I would be conerned with the added weight to the slide if it's not designed for it. 2nd, at 14" the front feet would not make contact with the floor. When these things go into the spin cycle they require good footing. Also, will the slide handle that motion?
IMO, find a better space.

I am sure ours is the same model, just brought it back to storage or I would look.

I would be concerned about the lack of full depth floor and support. As noted they do shake especially if they are a little overloaded. You might try to contact them, I have heard they are pretty responsive.

We really like ours for the normal everyday laundry. I wouldn't have to wash heavy, greasy loads. Have found that if you wash only, then pull cloths off the drum then dry they don't wrinkle as bad.

Make sure you have tank capacity when you use it!

Great thoughts, everyone. We may go for it, as the 2nd place location is terrible. The slide had a lot of weight on it before, so I feel like we’d be ok there. Great points on the front feet. My contractor says he can devise something (removable) to support them once the slide is opened. And on the shaking, I think we will need to be careful to only do really small loads. (Great tip on removing items mid-cycle to reduce wrinkles.)

And great point about the tank capacity. Our grey water tank is nice sized, but I would hate to learn the hard way not to take past capacity. We have so much to learn!

Thanks for all the thoughts!!!
