I am looking at a new Coachman Mirada and noticed that the generator has to be plugged in when using. Can an automatic transfer switch be installed with this set up. There is a 50amp plug inside the compartment that the shore cord is plugged into in order to operate the Generator. When hooking up to shore power the same cord is unplugged and used. I have never seen this in any of the Motorhomes I have looked at. Am I wrong about this?

Welcome campclan to irv2.
I would say it has to do with money or convenience by builder.
You can install a transfer switch, you will have to find your load center cabling, Gen wiring and you have the shore supply.
TS will also have a ground to chassis frame which should come with wiring instructions for TS.
While your at it maybe a good idea to install a Surge Protector to protect your electronic controls in coach.

Agree with 007 it can be done and while your at it install the surge protector. I replaced my transfer switch and posted the instruction manual in the files section of the IRV2 site. It's the ESCO es50 auto transfer. You can download the PDF to see what the connections will look like, any brand is fine but I wanted one with electric and mechanical switching( it's the clunk you hear)
