Intermittent florescent light

Our rig is a 2009 Fleetwood Southwind. The ceiling florescent light over the stove area is working only intermittently. The switch under the sink is turned on. Sometimes the light works just fine using the switch on the light fixture. Other times, it does not. When it does come on, there is no flicker or other issues. When it does not come on, there is no visible indication of a problem except no light! Wife wants me to fix it and hopeful that you can make me a hero.

Any ideas?

You might pull the light out and check the connection. Usually they use wire nuts to wire everything up and over time it could have gotten loose.

The other potential cause is a ballast going bad. These can be replaced but expensive.

I had several ballasts that went bad and got tired of replacing the fluorescent bulbs so converted my lights to LED. I took a couple lights out at a time to make it more efficient. I stripped all the guts out of the light include the ballasts. I completely cleaned each fixture. I bought a couple rolls (16' each) of LED strip light with adhesive on it. I installed 3 strips in each light. I wired the outer 2 to the original light switch and installed 2nd switch to control the center strip. By doing this I can have 1, 2, or 3 strips on at a time to provide for better flexibility to meet our needs. I think I had ~$90 in doing all my lights.

It may be as simple as removing and re-inserting the florescent tube!

I tried the tip of rotating the tubes when it was not working, and voila! They are now working. Will see if it lasts. Thanks to all for tips.

Glad it worked for you! Sometimes we tend to make simple things too complicated!
