Intermittent Generator shut down

Hey everyone!!!! So the question at hand concerns my 5500 Gold Onan generator.
We have a problem with the dash air not cooling (we are looking into that problem)! So while driving, my Dad is running the generator to run the coach air and the generator is shutting down. All fluid levels are good and at the fill line. He says the generator is shutting down after about 2 hours of running while the coach is in motion, He restarted and but it shut down again after about an hour.
I have not had any problems with the generator shutting down while parked. and using it for power at some rodeos locations.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried reading the error codes at shutdown? That might be a place to start. (Instructions in the Onan user manual.)

Also, if you use the forum search box (at the top of the page), you can find dozens of "Onan Generator Shutdown" threads. Good luck!!

When mine did that , it revealed a "36 code ". There have been many of those reported here. A new fuel pump solved my issue,

Since our Generator will run uninterrupted, with a load, while parked we have been setting around and brain storming about this intermittent generator shut down while driving...could it be that a sensor in the fuel tank could be giving false signal as the fuel level decreases... ie... the fuel sloshing and given a false reading of low fuel ?

just pondering

I was having a similiar problem with mine. It was shutting on high oil temp. My generator is in the last compartment on the drivers side and I have a full width rubber mud flap across back. The mud flat would not let the hot air and exhaust from the generator exit the area and was being picked up by the generator. I made a forward facing scoop for the generator to pick up cooler air while traveling. Never have had a problem with it shutting do again while traveling. As with yours it would run all day while parked without shutting down.
BTW, I don't think there is a low fuel sensor in the tank for the generator.

When the main engine is running it is sucking fuel from the tank,, depending on the system this may place a slight vacuum on the tank..

Fire up ye old generator and it gets worse... the following true story illistrates.

I was working as a "Monster" on a haunted trail.. My work station was lit and power came from a Honda EU-2000i.. It would run for a few minuts then stop.. acted fuel starved.. They tried and tried (not my generator) to get it running.. Finally I fixed it for them.. how? you ask.

"Did you open the fuel vent?"

Yup. I asked that question.

Sometimes what you need is a new gas cap.. the air admittance valve in the cap is too small.

I have a Quiet 8K Onan that is having stalling issues. It runs like a champ while parked, but within ten minutes of driving, it shuts down.
The oil is full, the fuel pump was just changed with the fuel filter. It shut down five minutes after driving off the shop's lot.
I'm stationary until the end of the month, then will need it a lot.
Any thoughts??

Maybe not a "universal" solution, but, I had the same problem with a brand new Onan 4K. It ran fine when parked, but would quit while driving with the roof A/C on. An Onan tech in California said he had seen this happen before and recommended an auxiliary fuel pump since the genny was at the front and fuel tank at the rear. I added a pump near the gas tank, and have not had any problems since.

I had read this thread a while back and experience it for the first time today. Was very hot on the way back from FW service so I fired up the Genny to run the roof AC. Ran for about an hour and shut down. When I got home and parked the coach I started it and it ran for about 10 minutes and shut back down. It is under warranty so I guess I need to find a service center. If it is an auxilary fuel pump that is needed that likely will not be covered under warranty will it?
