Inverter/converter

at the dealer I asked about an inverter, I was quoted $2119 parts, 10 hours labor, $1300 for a 2000 watt xantrex inverter/charger. Does someone know what just what is done. Do they take the charger out and install a ( combo unit )?

It appears that is what they are quoting. That is way too many hours. It should be 3 to 4 hours labor and could be even less than that.

You're not giving enough info...

Does your current unit have an inverter that you're replacing?
What circuits are they going to supply power to from the inverter? Microwave, refrig and TVs and perhaps an outlet or two in the kitchen?

Adding an inverter to a unit that does not currently have one can be a daunting task that is very time consuming considering the re-wiring to whatever circuits you are going to power from the inverter. Additionally, without knowing what brand/model your coach is, you may need to replace or add more batteries to the house side to utilize the inverter to it's full potential.

My inverter/charger appeared to be gone on my 2000 Monaco so I did some troubleshooting. I found that the charger worked, but I questioned the output of the inverter. Remember, a regular volt meter or outlet checker won't work on a modified sine inverter.
Called xantrex...because I had a Trace, they started me off with a 30% discount at $1,100 for a 2000W--said that was cheaper than repair after I described my power problem. A second call confirmed my order. Then I had another question so I called a third time....this time a new tech listened to my power problem again...he had some suspicion that nothing was wrong with the inverter, but that it only needed to have the "search" know adjusted.
So I did as he suggested and it worked!! He saved me the expense, and my time replacing the inverter.

The moral of the story is, I didn't know enough about inverter/chargers. A thorough discussion on IRV2 helped me determine the charger worked, and a knowledgable tech advised a simple fix. Now I have a much better understanding of how this component works!

Add more info to your post, a bet there are a few fellow RVers ready to assist you.

No inverter, want to add one. I have a 5th wheel, open range. I have a small inv that I have just added plugs where I wanted them before but the 5 th wheel looks like a lot of work? Where the two slide are makes it difficult. If more info is needed please ask. Tnx bill
