Inverter Update

Last December after the Norcold failed I installed a residential refer (Samsung RF18). I have a gas coach and therefore only two house batteries. What I've done up to this point is cool the refer down on shore power then not open the refer doors till we arrived at the campground. We rarely drive more than 5-6 hours but in this time the refer would warm up more than I liked. So to solve this problem (and with suggestions from many on this forum) I just completed the install of a Xantrex 1000W PSW inverter that I dedicated to the refer only. It works great. Yesterday I unplugged form shore power and ran the refer for 8 hours and the house batteries only lost one volt during this entire period. I have a Kill-O-Watt meter being delivered today and the next test will be to determine total amp draw. Thanks again to everyone.

Inverter Update

So you only have a 1000 watt with two batteries still? In the other picture that is what is powering the fridge and it is only a dedicated 1000w psw inverters?

If your MA has a BIRD, then it should keep the house batteries charged while driving so that you don't have to worry about it. My RF 18 only averages about 10Ah of inverted power. As long as your not boonedocking, you can survive with 2 batteries. You always have the generator if you get into a jam.

First, sorry for the images in my post being on their side. I think I learned how to correct them and attached them again.

Yes, I have only two house batteries and the 1000 Watt inverter I installed powers the refer only.

Scotty,
First sorry for the sideways images on my earlier post. Think I've learned to correct this so I posted them again.

Your thought is the same conclusion I came too. I do have a BIRD on my coach so I plan to leave the refer plugged into the inverter 24/7. When I'm driving the batteries will be charged by the alternator. When I'm on shore power they are being charged. As you say I always have the generator as a back up. Considering the low power consumption of the Samsung RF18 I'll be fine. Also we rarely boondock. I received my Kill-O -Watt meter yesterday and going to run some power consumption test later this week. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for this report - I have an Ole Dometic that works fine (we just put a new Dinosaur Control board in it).

But this is starting to look like a viable option if the day ever comes where I need to make a decision on replace the Dometic with another absorption or go with a residential.

Our biggest obstacle in the past for the residential was how we use the MH, Its becoming more apparent that we're generally plugged into shore power more than we boon-dock.

Is anyone allowing for air circulation with these installations?

This RF18 seems to be the model of choice but with the handles they stick about 5" more I believe. They also have terrible reviews on Consumer Reports?

There are very few choices for counter depth 33" French door refrigerators on the market. When I got mine nearly 3 years ago, there were no reviews since it was a new model. Now the only review that counts is my wife's. She likes it so well. she wants to replace the one in the S&B with a Samsung, when it goes out.

Looking forward to hearing what the Kill O Watt says. My numbers were from my Magnum BMK.

There are others but Sam has that inverter compressor that allows it to pull low amps and has an ice maker, except we usually by clear ice as the wife calls it?

How has it been since you installed?

Yep but hard to beat the Samsung price point.
