What year of a RV do you have and what type of inverter do you have? By the way, I think you are talking about a converter not an inverter. The converter charges your batteries. The old type of converters can over charge your batteries but the new Smart Converters will stop charging when the batteries are charged.

Hello John and . We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure you will enjoy the website and forums. Good luck, stay safe and keep us posted.
My first suggestion is to have your batteries well tested to be sure you do not have a bad cell. If the voltage does not come up to proper levels, the charging section of the inverter does not know this and will try to get the voltage to where it should be. I have replaced many battery banks that were boiling over due to a bad battery. Afterwards the inverter/charger performed as it was designed.

Yes, you will want a more modern charging system and you may need a new battery or two as well.

I'm fond of Progressive dynamics but there are others who produce a 3 or 4 stage charger in their converters either with, or as in the 9200 series PD converter, without a charge wizard fob, See here: PD9200 Series Converter/Chargers
