Kwikee LevelBest System

Is there a correct method to reset the leveling system? My manual leveling system stopped working with jacks in the UP position. All of the leds light up in the correct sequences, but jacks remain up with no action or pump noise. I suspect a power interruption of some sort. All fuses are OK.

Ted:

I had to reset ours once and did the following:

1. Remove the screws to the pad that operates the jacks and pull the plate out slightly.
2. There should be 1-2 wires that plug into the back of the plate. Unplug both for 1-2 minutes, then plug back in. This reportedly resets the small chip on the plate back.
3. Reinstall everything and see if they work. Don't forget to set the parking brake.

BTW, you posted several months ago about replacing the upper faded brake light on the rear of your unit. Got around to doing the same about (2) months ago and works mucho better. Thanks again for your help/recommendation for this.

I believe there are 4 connectors on the back of my Kwikee control pad, 2 larger ones and 2 smaller ones. Unplugging one of the small ones resets mine. I usually unplug both of the small connectors and wait 5 or 10 seconds before reconnecting them.

After a trip and return home, the levelers worked.

Winnebago Customer Service told me that the 2004 vintage Kwikee Level Best system was very sensitive to low voltage and that my problem was likely related. The voltage of the chassis battery was 12.3, but is now 13.4.

Also I learned that the reset procedure ( disconnect of only the connector with the large red wire for 1 minute) must be done with the engine running and furthermore when leveling or retracting the jacks at a camp site, the engine must be running.

Flytyer, thank you for the information. I've read many many posts telling to reset but this is the first time anyone ever said to have the engine running. However, I just tried it and it didn't work for me. I had a new controller put on at the dealer ($885.00) and the jacks worked one time when I brought it home and tested it. Four months later, I was getting ready to leave for a month and it hasn't worked since. Sometimes two of the jacks will go all the way down, then the other two will start down and stop. I have to turn off the keypad before they will go again. Longer keypad is off, further they will go. Same thing when I push the "all up"" button, have to turn the key pad off several times before they will come all the way up. Reservoir is full and batteries are good and I do it with engine running.

Boy what a headache you have there. I am wondering whether or not your system is the manual type or is it the auto level system. If it is the auto system, then maybe the level sensor needs re-calibrated.

After spending that much cash for a replacement controller, I would be a bit upset. Perhaps you need to speak with Kwikee Tech Support.

They helped me a number of years ago when my jacks would not retract at a campground in NY. They FedX'd overnight at no cost, a jumper cable I did not have which caused the jacks to retract using the directions sent with the cable.

It is manual, not automatic. I made an appointment with the dealer again. I hope he treats me right.

Kwikee used to have good customer support but that changed after they were bought by Actuant.
They will no longer accept phone calls from customers and even RV dealers report they are having trouble getting return calls.

Actuant also owns Power Gear and the same policy applies there, however people report that they can get answers about Kwikee products by going to the Power Gear web site and sending them an email.

We have the Kwikee leveling system that can be manual or auto, BUT when parked in storage we turn all electric off and that seems to mess up the auto system until we reset everything when we have manually leveled the coach the next time. We just gave up and always level manually. Not a big deal. We put each of the four levelers down until they all touch the ground [for stability] and then adjust them to level from there. Joe
