Anyone have experience with one of these units and how they are mechanized? http://www.campingworld.com/sh...-water-heaters/29196

From what I gather, the Lighting Rod heating element replaces the drain plug of the tank. My question is "where does the lighting Rod unit sense the water temperature of the tank"?

Is this unit difficult to install?
Is the unit reliable?

The product includes a thermostat to control the water temp. It is mounted on the hot water tank from inside of the motor home where you have access to the tank.

Following the install instructions is easy.

Make sure you get the ON/OFF switch and hook it up. I have it and use it to shut the heater OFF during storage and hooked up to power at home.

As for reliability, I have used one for 4 years without a problem, plenty of hot water, and I use far less propane each year as a result.
