My crazy day started off good. Went out to light the grill and came back in to get the burgers. Tried to open the door and nothing. The handle moved with no resistance. After a few choice words, and looking at the door as to how to take it apart I decided a beer would help. I first had to crawl out the drivers window to shut off the grill and get some tools, nice that I am only 173 lbs. Got the ladder and tools and back in the window and took the inside plate off the door handle (Tri/Mark Lock). I could see the cast slide broke and the door catch pin was stuck in the plate to hold the door shut. After thinking and another beer I finally took the inside screen door frame apart to get at the door latch (slide). With a thin screw driver I pushed the latch most all the way out of the way of the plate, but the not all the way. I finally kicked the door and open she went. I have on back order another lock assembly, but in the mean time I use the dead bolt as a latch/lock. From now on I will keep more tools in the rv just for times like this. Here is a picture

Don't forget to keep a good supply of beer on hand, just in case!

You got that right, at least I didn't climb out the window for them.

I would rather have it not happen again, just have a beer without the drama.

Been there.. Done that.. They make those stupid latches out of cheap base metal.. If you have a good metal fabricator handy he can re-build that for you out of genuine STEEL that won't break nearly as fast.
NOTE: your basement doors... Same problem and more.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one this happened to. I agree on the lack of quality metal and with it being just a slide there shouldn't be any real stress on it. Just hope it doesn't happen again.
