I have a 1991 Itasca motorhome. The voltage across the terminals is about 10.3 volts and my monitor panel will show that my battery power is at the lowest it can be. I have found though that once in a while it will suddenly register over 12 volts and the monityor panel will show that my battery condition is good. I have brand new batteries and have been monitoring my battery voltage and it is consistently above 12 volts even when the terminals at the converter are showing 10 volts or less. I have a magnetec 9345 converter and am wondering what the voltage should be, I am assuming it should be 12 vdc or higher. Is it possible that I need to have the converter repaired or should I get a new one. Thanks for anyones help

2hills, More than likely you have a battery with a shorted cell. Sometimes the short is a cracked connection internally and may operate at twelve volts on occasion. The indicator that I am using is that your voltage is 10.3 most often. That is the measure of 5 cells barely charged. Your sixth cell is shorted and not allowing other cells full charge. Take back your battery and try again.

Thanks for the reply. The batteries I have in the motorhome are actually the 3rd set since April of this year. The last 2 sets had dead cells but when I measure the batteries voltage on these new batteries they have always been at 12.3 to 12.7 volts each. I will have these batteries checked to see if there is a problem with any of the cells. Thanks for the help

Thanks for the information, it seems by your reply and DC Charlies that my problem is in one of my batteries. Thanks for the help.

2hills, Since you have had these problems before might I make a couple of recomendations.
Check the manufacturers date code on your batteries, make sure they are new. Secondly check to see if your charge voltage is appropriate for the type of batts. you are using. EX. AGM or flooded. Best batts. are (Trojan Flooded) Trojanbattery.com
& (Discover AGM) Discover-energy.com
Hope this helps, if you would like to speak with me call (704) 634-4845 Charlie
