Does the standard RV LP regulator provide any protection against overflow. Meaning, if a gas line were to break, and an overflow of LP were to happen, would the regulator shut down to prevent the overflow condition ??

The regulator won't stop the excess flow, but all of the newer propane tanks have a valve on them that will stop excess flow...even checks if you open the valve too quickly.

The NPGA website has all the answers about propane, cylinders, and tanks. Instead of trying to quote what I know, I'd rather link you to the "horse's mouth" so to speak, to eliminate any mis-information.
