maintenance on slide out cable

we have a 2016 Montana 5th wheel, trying to be diligent on maintenance in general. cant seem to find anything on the cable drive system for the bedroom slide out. do you leave the cable alone, kind of a if you lube them then grit becomes more of a problem or what?

thank you

This is what I do. Long stick with hook on end. Hook cable in middle and up-down push/pull travel should be about the same for all four cables with slide extended and then retracted. And check space at all four corners where slide flange meets wall - should be very little difference. Also inspect cable where ends attach to slide flange. There should be no whiskers or broken strands. Best thing is to find out who made your system and look online.

Here you go.......

BAL - Innovative Products for the RV Industry

Scroll about 3/4the the way down the page and you will see a place to click and download the service manual.

This system is a "give and take" type system. As the slide is being pulled out, there should be a bit of slack on the four cables that pull it back in. As the slide is being pulled in, there should be a bit of slack on the cables that pull it out. It looks a bit complicated at first, but spend some time reading the adjustment procedure and understand it....it's really not terribly hard to deal with. Hope this helps.

You're welcome. I came about that link out of necessity. I bought a brand new Fuzion Impact 303 last fall and towed it home (both slides worked during the pre-delivery inspection) and by the time I got home with it (375 miles) and tried to use it, the sofa slide was grunting and groaning when I tried to run it. The cables had gone out of adjustment because they use pieces of "foam" for locknuts instead of real locknuts on the adjusters. Once I had downloaded the manual and gotten familiar with the adj. procedure, I went through and adjusted both the sofa slide and the kitchen slide to the proper adjustment tension on the cables. When I was done adjusting, I rounded up some 1/4-20 nuts (16 total for 2 slides) and locked the adjustment down so that it couldn't move. The "foam" lock nuts is one of the dumbest things I have seen in a long time. In my 375 mile journey home 5 of them had fallen off and allowed the adjustment to change.....and not for the better. All in all, the cable slide system is not a bad system, but the foam lock nuts is very poor execution of a pretty good idea for cable slides. Anyway, good luck with yours and I hope that the manual serves you well.
