I have a sharp R1874f convection microwave. If I cook with the conventional microwave it works fine. However, if I try to do anything like bake, broil, etc it goes to preheat mode & never gets beyond that. It was on preheat for 45 minutes the other night before I just shut it off. Does anyone have any thoughts or do I need to buy a new one. Thanks

I believe that we have the same convection microwave. The microwave part of it went out, unlike yours, BUT you may have the same bad circuit board in the back of the oven. I took it to the local dealer and they sent the board to the manufacturer. They used my extended warranty to pay for it and four leaking plumbing connections in the water bay. The warranty paid just under $700. I can't do any of that stuff myself, but the dealer took care of it. I am hoping that you have a warranty that covers it. Happy Travels, Joe

It is internal of the micro/convection oven and will need to be diagnosed for repairs. It could be a simple or expensive fix. Are you able to remove the unit and good at electrical and mechanical skills?

we're not very handy, especially when it comes to electrical. We do have an extended warranty - Good Sams - & do have a couple other minor issues, so I guess I'll see if the warranty covers the microwave & go from there. If not, is it just a regular microwave we would buy to replace it. They are specially made for an RV are they (Don't mean to sound dumb, just kind of new at this) Thanks for your replies.

If it is not covered by your extended warranty, but it should, any microwave that is built in or has a kit to build it in, can be used. The only thing special about them is size; to fit the area the manufacturer of the coach provided. A residential microwave service company can repair it if it is cost effective.

Thanks for all the info. We'll see what happens next month when we take the RV in for several repairs.

The Sharp Model R1870 series microwave/convection ovens are a pile of junk. Mine will only run 58-59 seconds before shutting off and having to be Started again each time. It's the damper motor causing my problem, which I have a new one but haven't got anyone to pull the microwave and replace it yet. Understand from previous Posts that the touch panel and control board are constant failures. I'd replace mine in a micro-second if a different model would fit perfect, but the last RV that I changed microwave models was all sorts of headaches getting it to attach properly and have a trim around it replaced to fit correctly. Vowed never to go that route again.
Good luck with your situation.

We don't have any trim pieces around ours, so it might not be too bad trying to replace it. I think I'll wait til we take the RV in for service on some other issues & try to combine them under one deductable. If they don't cover it, I will probably try to get a new one that fits in there.

If you were trying to preheat 425 degrees or higher; and did not have enough power, (if you weren't plugged into 50A or Generator) the convection oven will try to preheat forever but never get hot enough.

When my microwave quit I called a service co. The tech showed up and told me his company would not allow him to enter a motorhome to work.If I removed the unit and took it outside he would work on it.I decided since it was 7 years old I would just replace it. The size is standard but the mounting holes were a little different.Being in the construction trade it was no problem.
