Does anyone have knowledge of an upright mini-freezer that will fit in the basement of our motor home? The height would have to be less than 27 inches. All we can find is 1.3 cu. ft. which is not hardly worth the trouble. Would like to get a 3.5 or 4 cu. ft. at least.

Thanks.....burfurd

I don't think you will find a pre-built freezer that is only 27 or less inches in height. Buy multiple freezers for a pre-built freezer. Other than that, the only recourse that I can see is for you to buy an air cooled refrigeration system and build an insulated box and install the freezer plates in it. At $1175 just for the cooling system, it won't be cheap. You could buy two medical freezers (@ 1.6CF each = 3.2 CF) and it would set you back $450 at http://www.compactappliance.com/Summ...eezers-Upright or three regular small freezers (@ 1.5 CF = 4.5 CF) http://www.compactappliance.com/CRF1...eezers-Upright that would set you back $540. Once you figure the cost of the cooling plates and the materials required to build the box, you would have a hefty amount involved. With the smaller units, you could spend the same amount of $$ end up with the freezer space you want and fill the units with food. Just a thought.

That would be cost prohibitive. Looks like there is a market waiting for some company to build a freezer that would fit in the basement of an RV. Amazed that no one has thought of or invested in manufacturing this size unit. They would have the RV extra freezer market cornered.

Norcold portable units will do what you are looking for. I have used one for ten years.

burfurd,

I did exactly what you are attempting to do. Here is the link of the unit I purchased. Please note it is a combination freezer OR a refrigerator. It will get down to -15 F in fifteen minutes. We have used it for two years now and it is a great unit. Cindy thought it would be too small also but she loves it now.

Beware, if you don't have an inverter to power this unit as you travel down the highways, you might want to add one. If you do, you will need a "pure sinewave inverter"- about 1500- 2000 watts.

I had to build a small box shaped frame to mount the freezer on so the door would open over the lower bay lip. Check the dimensions out that are posted on the site I indicated.

I just noticed that if you order it today, "Black Friday" you can get 20% off- .

Good luck,

Bit the bullet and went ahead and ordered one of the small refrigerator/freezer units. Will try it and see if it is large enough for our purpose, if not, will just sell it and buy a larger one and install on top of the washer/dryer although would hate to loose the cabinet space.

Thanks to all......burfurd
