Mounting the Garmin 770 GPS

Trying to figure out how to mount my 770 GPS. My previous GPS was a Rand McNally and I had it mounted on the side window which was perfect, with the amount that Garmin supplies with the 770 it is not visible enough. It cannot be mounted on the dash because it is not smooth.
Looking for suggestions that others have used for the 770 mount.

If your dash is flat this works well.

I use the Akron TAB806 Mount screwed to the dash. It holds the gps exactly where I put it with no vibration. It did require placing two screws into the angled dash.

I also use the bean bag type of mount. My dash is very angled and I just leave part of the bean bag just hanging slightly over the inside edge of the dash. It stays there in all cases other than extremely rough roads or panic stops.

Bob-

Could you post some picture(s) of your Rand McNally unit in the place you mounted it? I bet we can come up with a mount for the Garmin that will put in in exactly the same spot.

Huh? I don’t know what this is saying. My 770 mounts to the side window just fine. Different mh.

as you can see Photo#1 the Rand McNally arm is much longer which allows you to turn the GPS approx. 70^

#2 Rand McNally tilted back good position.
#3 is the Garmin with the standard mount, and it can only be tilted about 45^ and you have to lean forward to see it correctly .

(jarata) If I mounted it on the windshield I could not reach it.
(wildtoad) I have a sliding side window with a screen.

On my Itasca Meridian 34H I cut a piece of metal larger than suction base of 770. I slid it under the dash edge at the center of the steering wheel and then used silicone to hold front edge down. I like the fact that it is right in front of me while driving so I don't have to look sideways to see my gps. Just completed 2000 mile road trip and it worked perfectly.

I just use the mount the GPS came with and attach it to the side window next to the TPMS monitor. I am looking into getting the bag that sits on top of the dash as an alturnative.

I prefer not to be distracted and have to look away from the road to view the gps or vmspc monitor so I have them mounted directly in front of my steering wheel on the dash.
