Thought this would be the best forum to post this one and share this close call.
I've seen many posts about some electronics not liking a MSW inverter. I know I've encountered a couple of electronics things that aren't real happy with the MSW. I never thought a heating pad would be one of those devices.
This week we did some traveling. My bride has an electronic heating pad she uses to help with her occasional lower back pain.
She had used it in the morning on one of the couches before we left to return home. We left it plugged into the outlets that are supplied by the MSW while we traveled home. Mind you the controller was off.
On the way home, I occasionally would smell the very faint odor of what seemed like burnt electrical. We looked around but as soon as it showed up it would go away. This continued every 15 or 20 minutes during our 1.5 hour travel home.
We arrived home and were unloading the coach. I didn't hook up the shore power and left it running on the inverter.
I entered the coach to get another load of stuff and smelled that same burning odor. My bride was in the coach and I asked her if she smelled something burning and she said yes.
A quick look around and this is what we found on the couch:
Holy Cow! That isn't good....
Thankfully, the controller's burnt side was facing up. Not sure what may have happened if it was reversed and the burnt side was facing the couch.
Anyway, it was quite sobering to think what could have happened.
Take care and don't leave your electronic heating plugged into a MSW inverter!!
