NDR1292 Acting up......

Sorry. Not a Norcold story, not another almost on fire event.

We have a Dometic NDR1292 that is original to the coach, built in late 2001. We've owned it since mid 2012, and the fridge has behaved well. A few days ago I noticed that it was losing its cool, so to speak. Cooling tubes at the back were at ambient temp. Quick checks showed that the unit would work in propane mode but not on AC power.

Troubleshooting thus far:

- Unit CB and Fuse check OK at the main panel
- unit front panel indicates AC available
- 116 VAC at the plug
- 116 VAC at the Control Card input J5, J6 (4th-5th from the right below)
- 5A AC Control Card fuse checks good
- 0 VAC at Control Card output J7, J8 (2nd-3rd from the right below)
- AC heating units check OK @ 64 ohms
- visual check of the Control Board shows some apparent charring of components just above the small power relay, lower right in the picture below.

Based on my own experiences and reading in online service manuals, my conclusion is to replace the Control Board. These are readily available online.

Seems pretty straightforward so far. Has anyone had this problem before? Any experience here?

Thoughts?

Thanks.

JMHO: If that relay supplies power to the 110 volt heater for the fridge . I'd be replacing the heater element as well .

I'm no expert with this, Skip. What is your specific concern? I checked both heating elements per the service manual, and they both checked as good. That said, I would replace them in a moment for cause.
Thanks!

I see that you've checked resistance , my concern would be there could be a change in resistance, when the elements are hot , causing a circuit overload and over heating the board.
If you don't want to replace , at least remove the elements from their mount tube and check for external rust and corrosion.
