New guy question on stoves

Hi guys I'm new to the RV World and just bought a 2007 Dynamax. When the dealer showed me how to use the stove he used a Bic lighter to light it. Question is do stoves not have pilot lights that stay lit all the time?

My 1999 RV stove has a knob to turn that creates a spark at the burner.

My boat, with a 2014 stove, has a battery powered spark. You push a button and it starts sparking, and then you turn on the gas.

I don't think you will find any actual flame type pilot lights.

Range tops generally have igniters. Ovens do not as a general rule though some people have modified their oven. However the igniters can get messed up and not work. We have one picky igniter out of our three burners that I got tired of adjusting so I just use a lighter. However pilot lights went away quite a few years ago. They use extra fuel and can be a safety concern.

Yes, ovens have a standing pilot. But you will want to shut it off as part of your packup routine and relight it as part of your setup routine. The slightest breeze can cause the pilot to blow out.

Pilot lights are almost always electronic ignition.

My first MH (1979 class C) had no stove lighting provision; we used a long tip lighter, although they also make handheld "clickers" that produce only a spark that would work.

My 2nd MH (1988 class C) had a pilot light under the stove top right in the center (between all burners). Small 90 degree valve that you would open and then light it. It worked well, but kind of a pain since you had to remember to turn it off at the end of the trip; we usually just used a long tip lighter instead unless we were going to do alot of cooking throughout the weekend.

My current MH (2004 class A) has a spark "clicker" knob built into the stove. BTW, all 3 had an oven pilot light.
