I have a 6 gal Suburban water heater in my Lance camper with a switch at the control panel. When turned on the burner fires and runs for about 5 seconds then shuts off. This process occurs three times but the burner won't stay on. Any ideas?

Welcome Randy Erwin to irv2.
You have sensor that when flame is lit will sense that the flame is on and will continue with flame to heat the water to temperature level.
Carbon can build up on senser and needs to be wiped off. Use a soft cloth cause the senser is ceramic and can crack.
You may need to fire up WH a few times if its the first time this year of operating your water heater because of air in line.
Also clean the burner tube may have spider webs inside tube.
