Did a search to see if my newly installed PD 9260 converter was actually on(couldn't find the answer). I changed out an old Power Source 30 for this new unit. I've read that you should hear a humming of sorts if the unit is actually working. I don't hear a thing. My batteries were/are fully charged at the time of install if that makes a difference and I'm always plugged into shore power from the house. Thanks in advance for any answers, comments, or suggestions.....

With a meter, is there a place you can take readings to ensure it is on?

If you were to be off power for awhile and you deleted the battery power down; when you went back onto shore power or generator your converter would produce the hum you are thinking of, from the power draw the charger is pulling to put back into the battery(s). In other words the harder the charge would have to work the more the hum will be audible. This may will also cause the fan to come on.

Thanks for all the replies ... the information given here in this site has proven to be invaluable. Now that I have the experts on the line....How do I know if my genset is wired to charge the batteries via the converter? I know that when i'm off shore power the genny has to be on to run the ac or the microwave but when in this configuration the panel does not indicate that the batteries are being charged. Again thanks in advance to any and all comments and suggestions. Oh yeah I've got an old kohler 4ckm21 genset in a '95 WW fb2500.

Progressive Dynamics has a small electronic plug-in called the Charge Wizard. It has a LED lamp which blinks in a particular pattern to indicate the status of the charger and batteries. The cost is about $12.
The charge wizard is about 2 inches square and mounts almost anywhere and has a 3 or 4 foot small cable.
My PD charge/converter is super quiet and runs fairly cool. It is a great unit and has solved my battery problems as it keeps the batteries charged and de-sulfated...I have not had to add any dionized water for a year.
