Monday we got a new Carrier V now the new one has quit. It has power and cooled the fiver today and then quit. The fan runs but that it any ideas?

I think I found it !!! This AC has a remote control and I changed the battery and now it seems to be working. What got me was the fan would run on low and high but not on automatic. I finally heard the compressor come on but not fan until I set it to manual. I guess I am getting a little spooked.

Tom, does the remote have a reset button? If so you may want to reprogramm it to the new unit if you did not get a new remote with it.

Mike, I am not sure. We stayed in the waiting room and no one said any thing about the remote. I will do a reset. Thanks, Mike I did the reset.

Humm.. the fan should work on AUTO however I never use that setting (I will tell you why)

Now.. so you know.. the remote is only used to turn it on and off and to change the settings.. In operation you can, by pointing the remote elsewhere or covering the IR LED and turning it off. I don't know if this saves batteries or not.

Now: Why run the fan on HIGH-Manual?

Because the fan cycling on and off is very very annoying, but the fan running on HIGH all the time actually masks other noises and makes it seem much quieter inside the rig.

Some folks pay big money for "White Noise" generators to mask other sounds... The Fan on HIGH.. Same job, free

In humid climates, using the auto setting will do a much better job of dehumidifcation than running the fan on high all the time.

That may be... but I still like the white noise effect of the always on fan. And it's about as humid as it gets around here lately (80's and 90's)
