Today we pulled into Crossville, TN and after setting up the AC ran for about 20 min and tripped the breaker. It was cooling when this happen. I reset the breaker and no the compressor will not start. The voltage was 120V on one leg and 118V on the other. I took the cover off the breaker box and could find no loose wires or breaker not plugged in all the way. The campground moved to another site as maybe not a good connection at the campground power. The site had new wiring and still no AC the voltage is a little higher here. The compressor tries to start but that it. The AC unit is a Carrier V . Any ideas on anything to try. We are on our way to the National IRV 2 rally in Williams, AZ and may need both AC along the way.
Tom

Tom, it might be the PTCR (compressor starter) and/or start capacitor. This would be located on the top side and the compressor will be attached to it. A Supco SP-(#4 or 6) hard start kit will also work. You might call ahead to Nashville Camping World and stop by there for some help if you cannot or do not want to mess with it. Good luck and enjoy the rally. I wish I could attend, but can't.

Camping World in Nashville will not work on Carrier only replace it with one they sell. I got this fiver Jan. 15 2010 and not willing to buy a new AC yet. I finally got a RV tech coming by to look at it tonight, so it looks like we going to be here a few days. We are staying faily cool with the other AC, just hope it don't go out.

Tom, the compressor start capacitor is not a hard thing to change out yourself provided you are able to get on the roof.

Turn off the power to the A/C, remove the cover and use a screw driver to short across the capacitor to bleed off the electrical charge. Disconnect and reconnect...usually spade terminals.

If you can't get it fixed by the time you make Williams and can get the part, anyone of several of us at the rally can change it out for you.

I think camping world does not want to work on it because they do not have any real A/C techs...only parts changers.

Txiceman, I had a RV tech here today and the unit is not worth fixing. He tried new cap. The compressor is frozen. This unit has less than 9 days running since I got it. I spent $255 today to find out it can't be fixed.

Sorry to hear this Tom. We at the Chattanooga shop have several AC techs and I am even getting the parts guy to look outside the box for sources of parts; even locally!
While Carrier is not making the RV units, we are still buying parts from them.
