Is there such a thing as a "quiet" water pump? Every RV we have had has a water pump that resembles a sub machine gun firing off. Very disruptive in the middle of the night.

Help?????

Welcome to the irv2.com forum!

Insulation and vibration absorbing mounting is your best defense. A short length of reinforced hose between the pump and any rigid plumbing helps. An old mouse pad under the pump, and something to just hold the pump in place vs solid mounting helps. tubular pipe insulation where the plumbing passes through openings or lays on the floor helps. Remove and clean the screen trap on the inlet side of the pump, a clogged screen makes the pump work harder(noiser). You have the idea.

Other suggestions are; an accumulator tank to reduce the frequency of pump cycling, replace your pump with a variable-speed pump.
Whew-that's my brainstorm for this week.

I agree the noise is an irritant, but when mine goes off in the middle of the night it is an indication to me that I better start looking for a leak or dripping faucet. Something is causing the pressure to drop to the point that the pump runs. Good luck

I replaced mine with this one.

http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/r...ater-pumps.htm

It is barely audible, if at all. It is located in the fresh water compartment below the toilet in our coach. Prior coaches we have owned didn't have much (if any) basement storage so the pump was usually by the tank...which was usually below our rear master bed.

I agree you could use the accumulator tank but this is primarily designed to slow the need for your pump to cycle (which will elim. some noise). Once I tried this pump, I was sold. (Redundant since I had already purchased it... ). It isn't as expensive as others so for us it was well worth it.

If you really want quiet, look near the bottom of the link at the microprocesor controlled 5.7 GPM pump. Those are absolutely silent...but they were too much for me.

Just my $.02 (Devalued to $.0002 by the Chinese... )

I upgraded to the Shur Flo Smart Sensor - and really like it! It is indeed quieter than the standard pump, AND when yoiu open a faucet just a tad the pump runs just a tad! As in flushing the toilet at 3am

I agree you want the pump to make a little noise so ytou know when it is running!

I upgraded two motor homes with the Shur-Flo noise reduction kit (~$16) which consists of two 36" hoses with the appropriate connectors. Did a wonderful job.

On one of them, I added a small accumulator tank (~$28) and ended up with a very quiet water pump.

The most dramatic change was the one without the accumulator tank. It is a 98 Tioga with the hard pipes that act like an amplifier of sound.
