Norcold 1200

I have a Norcold 1200 in a 36 ft KZ Escalade RE and am having problems . I had the coils replaced with the Amish unit about a year ago and am having new problems. The Freezer is at 5-10 degrees but the refrigerator wont go below 56. Thinking of a residential unit. Any ideas.

The fact that the freezer is that cold shows it's not dead. Have you gotten any codes? They can steer you in the right direction.

I'd check the location and operation of the thermistor. According to what model you have, the thermistor needs to be on the 2nd or 20th fin, I believe. (check the linked manual)

I have changed the thermistor and have located it according to the manual. Thanks for the tip, will see what happens. I never had this problem until I defrosted the unit then it started.

Have you tried the factory reset which involves shorting two points on the circuit board?

I could not find the info on thermistor location, calibration etc. I found. Could you please give me the page number, I have seen several discussions on this but not the Norcold recommendation / spec..

Thanks

I had the same problem with the Amish cooling unit. Worked great for about a year then not so cold in ref. Samsung works great and wish I had saved money by installing Samsung first.

Thanks, overlooked it twice. If their serial numbers are sequenced they have built a ton of these things .

Have you tried the fridge on gas? If it works, it could be the heating element that does not have the right wattage for the Amish unit.

The fact that it gets so cold in the freezer but not the refrigerator box shows the system is working, so a different size heating element wouldn't change that. Points to the thermistor not being located properly. The comments about switching to a residential fridge are

Fact is, some of us prefer the quiet of an evaporative fridge instead of a compressor driven one. When the evaporative fridge works properly, its silent, efficient, and doesn't need 100's of pounds of batteries and inverters. JMHO.

Did your refer work OK with temps in the food compartment after the installation a year ago?

If during the installation the cooling unit wasn't properly sealed and/or the tmermolastic paste wasn't used on the cooling coils, that could cause a lack of cooling in your food compartment.

However as others mentioned, if the thermistor is faulty, or in the wrong location on the cooling fins in the food compaartment, that could also be a problem.

If push comes to shove, you may want to call the Norcold folks for help

Just curious why he would call Norcold when he says he's already switched the unit over to an Amish cooling unit. The only thing Norcold now is the refer cabinet is it not?

Your point well taken. My brain wasn't in motion when I worked the key board.
