I had the recall work done on my norcold 1200 series refer. Now it has to be set on 9 and will barely keep things cool. The ice maker used to fill the holding bucket over the weekend now I dumps once every or so hours. The meat in the freezer is all semi thawed.

has anyone else experienced this.

the refer and coach are 4 years old.

any help or direction to look would be appreciated.

How hot is it where you are? Does it work that bad on propane or electric? Is your refrigerator in a slideout? I don't think the recall has anything to do with the poor peformance.

Quickone,
If this worked fine before the "recall" and doesn't now, you may want to contact the shop where you had the work done and let them know that they "did something" to affect the performance of the fridge.

Suggest you get a copy of the service manual and look at the diagnostic section. Service Documents

A couple things to look for are: are you two fans running every 7 - 10 minutes or so for about 2 - 3 minutes.
If you're using A/C try switching to gas. While doing the "recall" they may not have accidentally disconnected one of the heater rods that plugs into the control board (yellow & black wires). This is the "engine" that creates the cooling for the freezer then the fridge.
If your refrigerator is in a slideout, open the top vent and see if the thermostat (about the size of a nickel and usually located on the right side of the fins, has a black and a white wire going to it) is securely fastened to the condenser fins and the spade connectors firmly seated on the terminals of the thermostat.

The service manual also has a method for testing your Thermistor which is located inside the fridge and is on the right side of the set of cooling fins.

Hope this helps,
Mike

I am in the north west . Has not been hot all year.

I just switched to gas and for last two hours you can hear the burner running.

I is in a slide so I will check top vent as soon as find a ladder.

Thanks for the comments.

I have not experienced this but a friend of mine has his recall work done after me at the same place. He discovered that they did not reconnect the d.c. to his fans. Unfortunately he discovered this when he lost his cooling unit. He has since gone with the Amish cooling unit. One of the differences between us was that they had to slide his fridge out to put in the thermocouple. Hence why they had to disconnect the d.c. to his fans to slide the fridge. Mine they did not have to slide the fridge but could get to it from the outside. Do you know how they did yours?

quickone, FreeByrd has the right idea. If your fans are not working properly, the refrigerator will not be cooling at it's best. Check to make sure that they are cycling and that your top vent is clear of any obstructions. When working properly the freezer should cool to around 8 to 10 degrees and the fridge section should be at 32 to 40 degrees. Here is a video I made while installing an Amish Built cooling unit in my Norcold 1200. This may help you to see where the fans are located.

well I got into the top inspection door in the back of the refer. There was a small wasp nest at one end but not interfering with the cooling fins. I located the thermal coupler and moved the wires around . The fan started and 24 hours later the refer is at 29 degrees and the freezer is at 10 degrees and making ice.

thanks for all the input .

keep on camping.
