I think the seals on my Norcold 1200 refrigerator may be leaking. Norcold says I need to buy new doors. I am wondering if anyone has replaced seals. I have done it on a household refer.

I have the Norcold 1200, but no problems. How old is yours and do you get that beeping alarm when the doors are not closed tight?

Google "Norcold 1200 RV fridge" and you will find several companies selling parts like door gaskets. Hope this helps, Joe

First, have you checked for leaks? Take a dollar bill and close the door on one end of it, then try to pull the bill out. If there is resistance, then the seal is making good contact and isn't leaking at that point. Repeat around the perimeter of all the doors.

If you do find spots that there is no resistance when you pull the bill out, then you have leaks. From what I have read, the seals are not available separately - you have to buy the whole door.

Home improvement and hardware stores sell self-adhesive weatherstrip foam. If the seal is more less intact (no major rips) and is leaking because it has become flattened with age, you might try to find some weatherstripping that is thin (1/16") and about the same width of the seal. Use the foam to build up the thickness of the seal to see if that will stop the leak. If you try this method, repeat the dollar bill test to make sure you haven't created any new leaks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried PPL and other parts departments, but I have been told that I do have to purchase the whole doors. Too expensive. A serviceman has tried the dollar bill test. It was OK. I still get frost on the fins. Never used to.

Frost on the fins of a Norcold 1200 is normal, especially if you are in an area with high humidity. However, the refrigerator is supposed to go through a defrost cycle (for the fins, not for the freezer) every 49 hours according to Norcold. The fridge essentially shuts down for a short period to allow the fins to warm up above 32º to allow the frost to melt. The water collects in the tray below the fins and drains through a hose to the outside. If your fridge is not defrosting, there may be a problem with the circuit board. You can also get a set of fans discussed in THIS POST to keep air moving over the fins to help keep them clear of frost.

I don't have the issue (yet) of the door seals leaking on our Norcold 1200 but was told by a gentleman in the business, that if I ever did have an issue to use a hair dryer on it to warm the area where you're getting the cold air leak from and then close the door.
Once it cools back down, it should be a good seal. . . . give it a try. . . it's free.
Hope this helps.
Mike

I don't know if I have a seal problem, because the techs have tried the dollar bill test and say everything is OK. I have a battery powered fan to blow air around the compartment. I have not checked the circuit board. I know it used to defrost every so often.
Thanks to everyone
