I have a Norcold 1200LRIMD refrigerator that is about 5 years old. We have noticed very small particles in our ice. Been trying to figure it out. Today, I took the ice maker out to view the cube tray and discovered the tray material is separating. Called Norcold and they said there was no recall or warranty on the tray but "I needed to replace it." Found a source for a new ice maker. The contact there suggested the breakdown was possibly a Teflon coating. I'm not sure how long we have consumed this foreing matter. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I have seen other posts that mention the teflon coating comes off as the icemaker ages. You can get a replacement icemaker with everything you need at Lowes. Whirlpool - part # 57773, model # ECKFU94 for $49.88. My icemaker quit this last week and will be getting the new icemaker this week.

That happened to our house frig a few months ago. Notices "stuff" in the cubes, shortly thereafter the unit quit. I replaced it for about what the bay I quoted.

This is a common occurrence and does not take very long on certain waters. I would recommend filtration and a water softener be installed on incoming water to the coach. This will help to prevent, this and other plumbing system problems, due to contaminates and hard water.

Thanks for the replies especially to Bay I for the Lowes tip. I just ordered a Norcold version from an online vendor and paid $170. I called and canceled the order and headed to Lowes. It looks like the new ice maker will require a few modifications but should work just fine. I'm surprised teflon is allowed to be used with all the bad press on that material.

The new molds are not Teflon coated like the older ones. You will notice it is a more translucent clear color.

My last house refrigerator ice maker also did this requiring a replacement twice before the frig gave out. I'm just waiting for my 6 year old Norcold frig to do the same thing. We have a water softner in the house and thought maybe any salt left in the water after a regeneration might have accelerated the deteriation of the ice maker cubes.
