Norcold 1210 IMB KD Refrigerator with wrapped type door

I hope this doesn't stir another Norcold firestorm but it should. My Norcold 1210 series refrigerator (05 vintage) has a severe moisture problem created by a deteriorated door gasket on the lower RH door. I have searched the internet trying to find a replacement gasket (not sold or available from Thetford), a replacement door panel with gasket installed (not sold or available from Thetford) or a replacement door (P/N 632744 no longer available from Thetford or thru any authorized Dealer).

This is only one of the many weak points of this model product. It appears that Thetford is getting rid of their problem by forcing us to replace this model by completely shutting down the usability of these units (however undesirable they are). I called Thetford and, under pressure, they acknowledged they would supply a replacement door, P/N 634075, BUT it is not the same "Black" as the original door. So, again, another stumbling block to maintaining the serviceability and forcing replacement. Who would spend that kind of money for a door that didn't match and stood out like a sore thumb. No one and they know that.

So, let me get off my soapbox and ask my questions: Does anyone know of a possible source for a NOS (new old stock) door panel? Has anyone replaced a 1210 with a domestic refrig in a 05 Newmar MountainAire. Mine sets on a raised platform, has four 6V house batteries and a 2000 watt inverter.

Thanks in advance for your comments.
Jim

Until you find a door and for keeping the other door seal from deteriorating use some vasoline on the seals to keep seal from drying out and make it seal better across any cabinet seams.

I've seen a roomful of Norcolds at a facility that replaces them with residential ones. It was at Classic Coach Works in Lakeland Fl. That's where I'd go to find a door. Maybe there's a place like that near you.

The final chapter has been written on this Norcold 1210. Didn't cool down prior to trip a few days ago. Never smelled ammonia but saw the tell tale yellow film around burner tube housing. Norcold recall hi limit switch didn't take system down and overheating nearly caused a fire, from heat, not ammonia. Took great pleasure in dismantling 1210 preparing for a new domestic electric refrigerator.

For anybody considering this conversion, the major problem you will encounter will be to find domestic refrigerator (side by side) short enough to fit in the space formally occupied by the Norcold. Width and depth probably won't be much of an issue. Good luck if you still operate a Norcold 1210 or if you are contemplating a conversion.

Not So Cold Norcold 1210

Well, my Not So Cold, Norcold 1210 is forever gone. Completed the change out to domestic electric refrigerator today. Long hard process to do by myself. Questioned my decision several times thru the process but glad I made that decision and now glad it is over. Happy to answer any questions I can from those contemplating this conversion. Found myself wondering if I will ever use all that big tank of propane with just my cook top. Will post a picture when I can figure out how to do it. Jim
